Echoes of the Past

Kilpeck Castle in Herefordshire is situated behind the church of St Mary & St David’s, although there are only a few fragments of the stone castle left, the earthworks remain and from the top, the view of the surrounding countryside is well worth the climb. We were lucky on the day we visited, the weather was meant to have rained all day, but it turned out overcast, although very warm.  This was our first holiday in Herefordshire, and the amount of castles and earthworks that are still to be found in this county are amazing and I can’t believe that it has taken me so long to find out about them.  We visited quite a few, but you really need to spend sometime exploring these sites, plus all the wonderful churches.  In the case of Kilpeck Castle, there are a few stones to conjure up the image of a lost…
